August 20th was an important day which marked a notable milestone for the Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA), holding its 18th annual convention and 25th anniversary celebrations. The founding Ethiopian architects came together a quarter of a decade ago, in 1991 to establish this association aiming to address their common interests but also to act and contribute collectively in the development endeavor of our nation. And in the past two decades and half, the association has involved itself in quite considerable number of issues of the sector trying to make a positive impact on the development of the built environment of Ethiopia.
On the opening ceremony, AEA President Wendwosen Demrew pledged that the association will continue to pave better ground for the practice of architecture and thereof contribute to the development of our nation. He also called on AEA's collaborators,partners and supporters, national and international, public and private organizations, to find their common interests and work together with AEA constituency.
The theme of the 18th Convention was titled Architecture and Development. Several local and international guests were present at the event. The event was officially opened by the State Minister of Construction, H.E. Ato Kahlid Abdurhaman, and keynote addresses were given by the President of the Africa Union of Archtects, Architect Kaisi Kalambo, Vice President of the Union of International Architects, Architect Hyder Ahmed Ali and thoe Immediate Past President of the Africa Union of Architects, Chief Tukunbo Omisore.
